The Mystifying Press Release

When you publish a new book, do you “bother with” a press release? I looked into it for my last book, via links from Smashwords, but even after reading the one example post, I didn’t know what to write, so I kept putting it off until it was no longer relevant.

Has that happened to you? Or have you tried your hand at a press release only to have no one show any interest?  If either of those apply to you, you may find this article by Alexis Grant helpful:

  1. Thank you! I wasn’t quite sure what a press release was exactly. This link is super helpful.

  2. Do it. They can be hair pulling, but you will be amazed where it shows up. A lot of sites set bots out to gather news articles based on keywords. and they will put your release up automatically.
Sometimes funny things happen, such as my last one for my vampire book ending up on a mountaineering site (I am still trying to figure out how)

  3. I am so lazy because halfway down that link, I passed out. I don’t think I have what it takes to do this, but hey, I self-publish so the pressure’s off. Thank God too. I really have no desire to do all of that. More power to those of you who do. I admire your hard work!
